Sterling silver pendant with hand-stamped details and a genuine Campitos turquoise from Mexico. This classic southwestern style is inspired by vintage Native American jewelry and features a double-band of thick sterling silver.
The Naja symbol was used in traditional Navajo jewelry as protection against evil, as decoration, and a sign of wealth & power. This ancient design has origins dating back to the Moors, Romans and Greeks. Some say it was introduced to the Native Americans by the Spanish invaders. Some say the Plains Indians are the first to use it for jewelry.
I wanted to make a modern and simple version, featuring genuine natural Campitos Turquoise from Mexico. This particular stone comes from the Pino Chueco and Cananea mines in Sonora Mexico. Through the ages turquoise has been collected and revered as the "sky stone", with evidence of use with Native Americans, Aztecs and Toltecs. Unlike other North American turquoises, Campitos grows in a unique way forming a beautiful light blue color and can take on a high polish.
This listing is for one silver & turquoise pendant necklace. The turquoise stone measures approximately 13x7mm. Entire pendant measures approximately 1.5x1.25in. The sterling silver chain measures 18 inches and has a small lobster clasp. Please note, this necklace is made to order and will vary slightly from the photos shown.
